Yesterday, I-League committee decided to allow only Chennai City FC and Minerva Punjab FC into the I-League 2017 making it a 10-team affair after Churchill Brothers had to be let in due to court rule.

There were 5 bids in total submitted for the consideration of the I-League committee for consideration. This included bids from Delhi based Sudeva FC, Goa based FC Bardez and Manipur’s NEROCA who could not be successful.

Apparently only Minerva and Chennai City FC could ensure the mandatory bank guarantee of Rs. 100 crore while the others failed. The NEROCA FC owners who own cineplexes and diagnostic centres could show only Rs 45 crores in their bank accounts. The Delhi side had a much weaker figure to show.

It was only FC Bardez that could manage to show the required amount but due to ongoing legal issues that was not possible now. Hence they also were rejected despite being a strong contender.

Meanwhile it is learnt that Churchill Brothers are all set to appoint Derrick Perreira as their next coach for I-League 2017. The 2017 edition of I-League will kick off on 7th January.
