The Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK) in Slat Lake, Kolkata will get a major makeover, the biggest since its inception. Keeping in mind the upcoming 2017 FIFA U17 World Cup, VYBK will be uograded with bucket seats and top quality grass surface if everything goes according to the plan.
A FIFA team is about to visit the stadium and inspect the artificial turf following which they will take a call on its replacement with naural grass turf. The Grade-4 (poor quality) artificial turf installed in 2008 has created a lot of problems for the footballers and clubs.
While no Kolkata club has ever won the I-league playing on this turf, the players have frequently been injured. The turf easily geats hot and creates trouble for the footballers.
The athletics track around the turf shall also be replaced and the team of engineers have already inspected it.
The biggest news for the spectators is that the entire stadium will get bucket seats like the Eden Gardens recently got once FIFA officially clears India as the hosts of 2017 FIFA U17 World Cup.
