While January is a time when clubs are usually rushed into making deals, here are a few players who have were gems unearthed in the mid-season transfer window :-
1. Moussa Sissoko
Newcastle United wrapped up the signing of French midfielder Moussa Sissoko for a mere £1.8 million in January 2013. Sissoko previously a target for the likes of Juventus, Bayern, Arsenal, Liverpool and PSG; was priced at an astounding £10 million earlier in the summer. With all the aforementioned clubs bowing out of the race, chief scout at Newcastle Graham Carr kept an eye out on the Frenchman whose playing style is likened to Patrick Viera. Despite having struck a deal with Toulouse for Sissoko, then Toon boss Alan Pardew insisted on paying about £2 million just to have him as early as he could. 2 seasons in, Sissoko is the heart-beat of the Newcastle midfield. Recently beating the likes of Hazard, Sanchez, Sterling to being deemed as the fastest EPL player by EPL Index; Sissoko has been Newcastle’s saving grace on more than one occasion this season. They’ll do well to hold onto him with the big boys interested.
