Vasco SC, Goa has appealed in the local court in Vasco against the AIFF for allowing Shillong Lajong FC to play in the I League 2011 in spite of them fielded ineligible player.

I League 2011: In Jeopardy?

The incident happened earlier during the I League Division 2 final round matches. S. Tuboi who originally was playing for SLFC and was registered under Meghalaya FA, played for a short period with a local club in Kolkata under IFA. This made him ineligible to play for SLFC again without an inter-state transfer for which he would have had to wait for the next transfer window. But SLFC still fielded him in the 2nd division matches. Vasco appealed against it to AIFF who formed a committee to inspect the matter. After the inspection of the documents, it was found that indeed Tuboi was ineligible and was suspended.

But the AIFF went ahead with the tournament without penalizing Shillong Lajong. Vasco says that due to fielding ineligible player, the points of their match against SLFC should go to Vasco and thus enabling them to qualify for the I League 2011-12. Now the issue is in the hands of the Vasco Court. The proceedings will start today, i.e. Thursday.

It is, however, surprising that Vasco did not take the action for so long and waited at the 11th hour of the I League. This has jeopardized the schedule of I League as the court has also asked the AIFF to not schedule SLFC matches until the matter is resolved.
