Iran drew against Portugal in a game marred by controversies regarding the use of VAR. Portugal took the lead in the first half due to individual brilliance of Ricardo Quersema in the last-minute of first half. The second half was full of controversies as Ronaldo went diving down after a very minimal contact from the defender to everyone’s surprise the referee after consulting the VAR gave a penalty which later saved by Iranian goalkeeper Ali Beiranvand. Ronaldo again was at the center of controversies as he elbowed an Iranian defender of the ball and escaped without a red card.

Iran later earned a penalty which was converted by captain Karim Anarifard to end the game in a draw but it wasnt enough to take them through to the next round.

Iago Aspas scored in the stoppage time to help Spain draw Morocco and take them to the next round of the FIFA World Cup. Morocco draw first blood early in the game through Khalid Boutalib in the 14th minute but Spain equalized due to brilliant combination from Iniesta and Isco. Morocco took the lead in the 81st minute. Spain the goal from Iago Aspas initially ruled out as offside but VAR overturned the decision. Spain ended the group as topper and face the hosts Russia next.
