Yussuf Poulsen’s 59th minute strike was enough for Denmark to hand Peru a defeat in their first World Cup game in 36 years . Peru dominated majority of the proceedings but were not clinical enough. Attacker Christian Cueva missed a penalty late in the first half after he was brought down by Poulsen.

Denmark who were defensive for majority of the game broke the deadlock in the 59th minute when Eriksen found Poulsen on the counter and he calmly placed the ball at the back of the net.

The hero of the game was goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel won saved a penalty and had had 5 other good saves to deny Peru a goal.
