A leading Bengali daily Anandabazar Patrika has confirmed that Diego Forlan has signed the dotted lines for Atletico de Kolkata for the Indian Super League 2016 season.
While he had been chased by a number of clubs in the past, Diego Forlan had visited India only as a guest in a Bengali reality TV show after his 2010 FIFA World Cup glory. He was adjudged the Player of the Tournament.
Forlan has plied his trade in Manchester United and Atletico Madrid, and is actively playing in the Uruguay top league club Penarol.
A contradicting report has come out today in US media that Forlan is actually in touch with some American clubs. The source of course couldn’t be more authentic as it was Forlan’s father Pablo Forlan himself!
Pablo linked his son with clubs from Mexico, Chile (Colo Colo) and USA in an interview to an Argentine radio program. Interestingly, it was Forlan’s brother who substantiated the link with Atletico de Kolkata in Indian Super League! It is all in the family as they say.
If Diego has indeed signed with ATK, then he has been paid almost 25% of the entire Atletico de Kolkata budget according to the report. Hoping that we finally see the legend romping in the Salt Lake Stadium!
