The two south Indian teams meet today in rain soaked Chennai. Kerala Blasters has given a good account of themselves in the first game against North East United but concede the only goal of the game to come back with empty hands. Chennai team, on the other hand, showed a resilient display to win against a impressive Goa 2-1. Now Chennai will host Kerala and aim to win in front of the home crowd, Kerala on the other hand will be happy to open their account.
The Chennai franchise will depend a lot on their marquee player, the Brazilian world cupper Elano, who scored a brilliant free kick goal against Goa. The former Man City player will like to stamp his authority in midfield and dominate the proceedings. Chennaiyin will also hope that Indian striker Balwant Singh will find the net, like he did against Goa. Balwant had a great I League season, and recently has been in full form for Mohun Bagan in the Calcutta league. Now he has also scored in ISL, and would like to continue so to get himself an India team spot ahead of Robin Singh.
Former India defender Gouramangi also had a decent outing and would want to keep a clean sheet against the Kerala Blasters. His partnership along with Bernard Mendy will be crucial for the final outcome of the game.
Kerala will look to use the experienced Penn Orji as an attacking midfielder and the liked of CS Sabeeth and Micheal Chopra as striker. Chopra, despite looking lively, had missed out on two easy chances in the last game and will look to make his mark in this game. Experienced English goalkeeper David James will give the Trevor Morgan coached side the much needed stability.
