AIFF executive committee meeting will be held in AIFF Football House in Delhi today. There are multiple important issues regarding the national team that is going to be discussed. At the end of the meeting, Indian football fans might have some good news to cheer for.
Caribbean Tour: AIFF to force clubs to release players
Earlier it was thought that the Caribbean tour is just for courtsey and the matches are not recognized by FIFA. So the clubs were not willing to release their players ahead of start of the season. But according to Mr. Kushal Das, the tour will have the matches recognized by FIFA and hence the clubs will have to release players. Mr. Das said,
I have never said that the tour is unofficial. Let me make it clear, India is going to play FIFA recognized International Friendlies. In that case, the clubs will have to release players according to FIFA rules.
So, it looks like, in the meeting later today, the AIFF might decide to take tough stance against the clubs and might even think of penalizing them in case the players are not released.
Mehtab vs Sunil Chetri
Mohun Bagan has released Jewel Raja. But they are not yet ready to release Chetri. In fact, they said, Chetri will be show-caused if he does not report to MB camp by today. There is a stalemate over release of Mehtab by East Bengal and MB says theye will release Chetri on the condition that Mehtab is also released.
The England Tour
The England tour consisting of 3 matches against Pakistan was on the verge of getting cancelled. The organizers had reduced it to 1-match series due to various reasons including lack of sponsors. AIFF were unwilling to send their team for a one-off match. But now, organizers have put up a new exciting proposal. Apart from 1 match against Pakistan, India might play the other 2 matches against England U23 and Scotland U21 teams.
This sounds very exciting, because India team consists of many U23 players and will be a good chance to test our players against them.
Let us hope all the positive things come out of the meeting
